LandSmart Grazing for Community Resilience Workshop

July 26, 2023 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

- Free

The Gold Ridge and Sonoma RCDs with UCCE Sonoma are excited to invite you to a free in-person event to learn about strategies for managing vegetation for fire resiliency!

The event is designed to support public land managers and private landowners in efforts to reduce fire fuel to make their properties and communities safer in the face of wildfires. We will discuss livestock grazing as a vegetation management tool, the advantages of collaborating with your neighbors on a project, learn about local fire resiliency efforts, and share other resources available to the public. Fire and RCD representatives, livestock and prescribed grazing professionals, and representatives from the local Fire Safe groups will share resources and answer questions. This event is designed to help you feel confident about what you can do to increase fire resiliency and feel supported where you need assistance.

Workshop Description

Attendees will learn about each of the following topics.

Local fire representatives will discuss fire fuel and vegetation management, home hardening in our rural areas, local fire resilience efforts, and other fire expertise.

UCCE staff Dr Stephane Larson, UCCE intern Sam Morrow, and Community Grazing expert Sarah Keiser will discuss goals and perspective of prescribed grazing, when livestock is the appropriate tool for vegetation management, grazing cooperatives, and other community collaboration efforts.

RCDs will discuss the LandSmart Grazing Program, the resources that are available for vegetation and fire fuel management, the local chipping program, and share other related resources.

County representatives will discuss resiliency efforts and programs in Sonoma County, the county chipping program, and other resources for community members.
