Why are we grazing in Monte Rio?

We are grazing for fire resilience, vegetation management, and to aid in restoring ecosystem health. This project is part of our LandSmart Grazing program and is in partnership with The State Coastal Conservancy, Sonoma RCD, UCCE, and Wild Oat Hollow. The goats will be herded across the bridge in Monte Rio on July 16 at 10AM. This act of moving the goats is referred to as transhumance. The word transhumance means “to move livestock from one grazing ground to another.” Come join us as we herd the goats to their next grazing site! 🐐

Afterwards, the Monte Rio Theatre & Extravaganza will also be offering a showing of the film “The Goat”. So come out and experience the agrarian culture of Sonoma County and help us move the goats to their next grazing area! 🐐
